Italian Customs Destroy 12,000 Counterfeit Retro Video Game Consoles

Rome, Italy - Italian customs officials have seized and destroyed 12,000 counterfeit retro video game consoles in a major operation targeting the illicit trade in fake goods.

The consoles, which were imported from China and intended for sale in Italy, were found to be of poor quality and contained unlicensed software.

The operation was carried out by the Italian Guardia di Finanza, the country's financial police, in collaboration with the Italian Customs Agency. The consoles were seized at the port of Genoa and were subsequently destroyed.

The counterfeit consoles were found to be in violation of intellectual property laws and could have posed a safety risk to consumers. The consoles were made with cheap materials and did not meet safety standards, which could have resulted in fires or electrical shocks.

The operation is part of a wider crackdown on the illicit trade in counterfeit goods in Italy. In recent years, the Guardia di Finanza has seized millions of euros worth of fake goods, including clothing, watches, and electronics.

The destruction of the counterfeit retro video game consoles is a reminder of the importance of intellectual property rights and the dangers of buying fake goods.
