Diamondbacks Rally for a Walk-Off Win in the 9th
Impressive Comeback Leads to a Thrilling Victory
Arizona Diamondbacks 8, Baltimore Orioles 4
After a hard-fought game, the Arizona Diamondbacks pulled off an incredible comeback in the bottom of the ninth inning to secure an 8-4 victory over the Baltimore Orioles. The rally began with a two-run double by Gabriel Moreno, followed by a clutch three-run home run from Ketel Marte. After Marte's home run, Daulton Varsho added an insurance run with a double.
The Diamondbacks' ninth-inning surge came after they had trailed 4-3 heading into the final frame. The Orioles had taken the lead in the top of the ninth on a sacrifice fly by Ryan Mountcastle.
Prior to the ninth-inning dramatics, the Diamondbacks had shown flashes of their offensive potential. Christian Walker had put the D-backs on the board in the first inning with a solo home run, and Marte added another solo shot in the third.
In addition to the Diamondbacks' offensive outburst, their bullpen turned in a strong performance. After starter Ryne Nelson left the game with a 3-2 lead after five innings, the D-backs' relievers combined to allow just one run over the final four innings. The bullpen was led by Joe Mantiply, who earned the win after striking out two batters in the seventh inning.
The Diamondbacks (70-67) have now won four straight games and are just three games out of a Wild Card spot. They will look to continue their momentum when they host the Milwaukee Brewers on Tuesday night.
