Calls for Resignation over RMIT Controversy

RMIT Chancellor Faces Scrutiny

Melbourne, Victoria - Prominent businessman and former Telstra chairman Ziggy Switkowski is facing calls to resign as chancellor of Melbourne's Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT) amid allegations of inappropriate behavior.

The allegations stem from an incident at a recent university function where Switkowski is accused of making sexist and demeaning remarks to a female staff member. The incident has sparked widespread outrage within the university community and beyond.

The RMIT Student Union has issued a statement condemning the alleged behavior and calling for Switkowski's immediate resignation. The union has received support from several staff unions and student organizations on campus.

In a statement, RMIT Vice-Chancellor Martin Bean said he was "deeply concerned" by the allegations and that the university was conducting a thorough investigation. Bean added that he would not make any further comment until the investigation was complete.

Switkowski has denied the allegations and has refused to step down from his position. However, the pressure on him to resign is mounting, and it remains to be seen whether he can weather the storm.
